Hunger and Thirst for God

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Since I've became a Christian those few months ago, I have been wanting to get closer and closer to Him and really build on our relationship. That is just as it should be. Just as I have a need for water and food to survive, I now feel a hunger and thirst for God. I can't picture my life without Him. I remember how alone and unhappy I felt for all of those years that I was running from or simply ignoring Him. Just as a person can starve if he/she doesn't eat, a person can starve spiritually if he/she isn't working on his/her relationship with God.

Non-Christians of course don't have a hunger or thirst for God but unfortunately sometimes even Christians can lose their hunger or thirst as well. In the case of non-Christians, they look for happiness and fulfillment everywhere but in a relationship with God. Considering that they don't believe in God, that is understandable. Sadly, Christians can lose their spiritual fulfillment when they get so caught up in church activities, school activities, careers, relationships with others, etc. that they lose sight of the fact that God is still the most important thing in their lives. Many times Christians get caught up in those things and think that they can simply "make up" with God on Sundays. The truth is though that as Christians, we should put God first all the time. He should be involved in those activities with us. Even in the case of church activities, it's not about just teaching others about Him but it's also about letting God guide us and talk and do things through us.

So how does a person have and maintain a hunger and thirst for God? As I've only been a Christian for a few months, I still have that on fire for God attitude. It's sorta like that new car smell but obviously way better and much more important. It's such an amazing feeling and it happens naturally when one accepts God and truly trusts him to always love you and be there and guide you for the rest of your life.

------Pray daily and often: Just as it is important to talk with family, friends, and others to maintain a healthy relationship, the same is true of God. For me, I literally pray and talk to God as if He is a person here with me. I think that's important. It is okay to speak out. There's no shame in it.

------Read the Bible: The Bible is the word of God so it's important to read it. Bible scriptures are more than stories written by old people. They are literal examples given to man by God to give examples and guidance on how people should live their lives.

------Fellowship with other Christians: Just as good friends hang out and spend time together and love one another sharing the same likes/hobbies, it is just as important for Christians to spend time in fellowship with fellow Christians and grow in Christ together. What better way is there to love a God who loves us and to also get to share that love with others who knows the same to be true.

I love me some good food but I love my God even more. How could I not?! He literally suffered and died on the cross for my sins so that I wouldn't have to. There is no greater love than that at all. God bless you all!!!!
