Avoiding Sin

We all sin. It's a part of being human ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God all those years ago in the Garden of Eden. That does not mean that we are all doomed to go to Hell. God loves us more than words could even describe. That is why He sent His only son, Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He suffered and took that burden upon Himself so that we wouldn't have to. That doesn't mean we should just do whatever we want to though. It is still important to do everything that we can to avoid sin. It is important that Christians live their lives in the way that Jesus would if He was here. He is coming back soon I believe. I know I want to be ready. That's why I do my best to hold myself accountable on every thought/action. I want to be just as much as like Jesus as I can because that is what He wants. I'm not perfect but it's important that I try to better myself every day.

A lot of the time, people may think that they aren't doing anything wrong. They think sinning is doing obvious wrongful acts like murder, stealing, cheating, etc. However, if you're thinking of doing something that Jesus would not think/do, you're still sinning. In God's eyes, all sins are the same. We tend to see sin as big or small ones but wrong is wrong according to God. The good news is though that God forgives all sins regardless. You simply have to repent and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. In order to do this, it is important to realize that you are sinning and that you need a savior.

Many times what leads to sin is temptations that we face. If we were never tempted to sin, then we would not. That is like when Adam and Eve first sinned against God, it was Satan that tempted them. People need to realize that Satan is always tempting us. Christians have to stay strong. I know myself it's not easy but I work hard. When I'm struggling, I pray and ask God to help me.

How do I avoid temptations? You can't because of Satan, however there are ways to deal with them.

  1. The first thing that you must do is identify any temptations that you are facing whether it be things like addictions, inappropriate behavior, going to places that you shouldn't, etc. Once you understand what temptations you are facing, you can work on dealing with them. For example, if you are struggling with something like drug addiction, you could seek help from like a recovery program or even a church. With a porn addiction, you could install a porn blocker on your computer. Sometimes we can have friends that are a temptation because they can be a bad influence on us. It is okay to be their friends but you shouldn't do anything that would be against God. You should still act in a Godly manner and maybe you could have a great influence on your friends.

  2. You should also take responsibility for your temptations. Many times we can see that we have a problem but we tell ourselves that we can work on it another time. However, that isn't what we should do. We should decide right in the moment to stop whatever it is that we are doing wrong and stick to it. That's easier said than done sometimes, but it's a start. You may fail at first but it is important to keep at it. If you have to, ask a good friend to hold you accountable.

  3. Another way that helps dealing with temptations is to do something positive. Anything you feel like doing something that you know that you shouldn't, do something good. The first thing that you should do is of course pray and ask God to help you. He will...He is always there for his children. You could do something like taking a walk, listen to some music, etc. It's a good idea to get your mind on something else beside the temptation.

  4. Avoiding situations that can lead to sin is also a good idea. If you are hanging around people who are constantly sinning, you should avoid those people. You should avoid sinful places. If you have anything sinful like pornography, drugs, etc., you should dispose of it. You can't do those things if you don't have them.

  5. Sometimes sins can be so bad that we may need help to deal with them. They simply have us so weighed down that we can't cope with them on our own. That how I felt many times and I didn't have anyone but I gave it all to God and He has helped me greatly. Turning to God is the first one a person should turn to. Secondly, you should turn to any family or friends that can help you. It is okay to ask for help. You don't have to go through things alone.

  6. In the case of Christians, it can be even harder to deal with temptations because Satan will work that much harder to make us turn our backs on God. It is important to stay strong and vigilant in our faith. For me, I pray a lot during the day asking God to lead me away from sin. The worse thing that I do these days is sometimes think things that I shouldn't but when I have those thoughts, I ask God to forgive me and help me to cope with the troubles of this world.

  7. Reading the Bible is a great way to deal with temptations. Christians should be doing that daily anyways. Since the Bible is the word of God, it helps a lot. For me, I read my Bible and do what I can to apply it to my everyday life. Reading a daily devotional also is good.

  8. Realizing that God is always here with me is what helps me the most in dealing with any temptation that I face. I know that He loves me so I do not ever want to do anything to disappoint Him. Seeing His people sin hurts Him and I never want that.

Though sinning is inevitable, we must understand that it is important to still try not to do it. For me, I want to be that Godly person. Jesus died on the cross for me. Being the best Christian that I can be is the least that I can do. I wish I could do more. For anyone who is struggling with any temptations, trust that God is still with you. You are still worthy to Him. We are blessed that He loves us no matter what. No sin is too great. He will always forgive you if you simply repent. God bless everyone!!
